The Canadian Pacific Railway Viaduct, or the High Level Bridge, was built between 1907 and 1909 across the Oldman River Valley; it is the longest and highest of its kind in Canada.

In the Shadow of the Bridge Festival

An initiative of the Allied Arts Council (AAC) and the local arts community, In the Shadow of the Bridge” festival takes place on September 5, 2009 in the river valley adjacent to Fort Whoop Up from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. 

Festival activities include performances by local musicians, dancers, actors, puppeteers and First Nations talent. An artisans market showcasing work by local artists will delight young and old alike. A children’s activity area is provided by Lethbridge Family Center. Local actors in period clothing will be present to engage the audience while providing historical story of 1909 Lethbridge and the construction of the Bridge. Local buskers, food kiosks and beer gardens add to the festive atmosphere.

Admission wristbands are available at all Lethbridge Safeway locations and the Allied Arts Council Office.  Admission for adults is $12.00; students 13+ is $10.00; and seniors 65+/children 6+ is $5.00.

Please note that there is no onsite parking.  Busses are provided and departing every half hour from Enmax Centre; University of Lethbridge Lot M; City Hall; and Park Meadows Mall (S.E. Corner).  A shuttle service is also available from the Lethbridge Lodge, West Lot every 15 minutes.
